Rock Creek Campground

A few weeks back we drove up into the mountains. There are a couple of campgrounds right up the road from us that we thought we would check out.
We started out at 7500 feet in elevation here at Monte Vista/Alamosa and ended up at 11,250 feet!
There is still some snow on the mountains.
We took our lunch.
Hiked around.
Fell through the snow!

Saw some beautiful flowers.
Red Columbine
Beautiful birds and butterflies too.
Green Comma
Green Comma - closed
Painted Lady

Yellow-rumped Warbler
This is a really nice area that we’ll come back to again.

  1. We're gonna HAVE to visit that area sometime! Bill has wanted to spend a summer in Colorado since we first started out... 12 summers later and we still haven't. Your blogs have been inspiring... maybe it's time! By the way, Bill Shehan had a birding tour here yesterday... 5:30am until nearly noon! Don't know yet what all they saw, but I thought of you two.

  2. It is so hot here that it looks funny to see you in long sleeves and falling thru the snow. We finally got rain yesterday but it is supposed to get up to 95 tomorrow! Central Air day for me! :)

  3. Sharon - I know what you mean about wanting to try new places but from pictures you've been showing on your blog I can see why you keep going back to Maine. I hope Bill and his group are seeing some great birds.

Penny - We've actually hit 80 here a couple of days! It's so strange here - in the sun it feels VERY warm but as soon as you step into the shade, the wind is cool and it's very comfortable.
