June 30, 2010, Yellowstone NP, Wyoming

We drove to Yellowstone National Park today. This was another area we had visited in 1997 for one day. On the way to the campground we had to stop for bison.

After lunch we drove to Mammoth/Hot Springs. On the way there we saw a lot of cars pulled over and we stopped to see what they were looking at. There was a mama grizzly and 4 cubs. They were a long way off but we could see them with our binoculars and spotting scope.

Grizzly and cubs (a LONG way off)

Mammoth visitor center was very crowded. We asked about seeing wolfs and were directed to a town (Gardiner) about 5 miles away (in Montana) where we could get some information. We drove there, another very crowded place, and got the info we needed. We noticed that all the rangers were carrying bear spray and it is suppose to be very effective. So, we bought a can, could be the best $50 we ever spent!
