June 6, 2010, RMNP, CO

We walked the trail to Lulu City this morning (7 ½ miles). It was a very pleasant walk with quite a bit of snow. Lulu City was once a mining town. We did see a few places that looked like old cabin foundations but there is not much left. Joe Shipler built the first cabin in 1876. He did not find very much gold or silver.

We sat by the Colorado River and had a snack. It wasn’t long before the Gray Jays found us!
One the way back we saw several Mountain Goats and a family of Yellow-bellied Marmots.

We had a hail storm this afternoon. Pea size. It was really loud in the RV! The temperature dropped about 25 degrees in 10 minutes!
After dinner we walked down to the Holzwarth Historic Site. It’s right next to our campground. There are several restored 1920 buildings from the dude ranch. It was very interesting.
