June 5, 2010, RMNP, CO

We hiked up to Adam’s Falls this morning. It’s a beautiful short hike near Grand Lake. The trail keeps on going after the Falls so we hiked another couple of miles. The weather is very pleasant and great for hiking. Our big find of the day was a 3-toed woodpecker.

After lunch we went to the Colorado River Trailhead for a ranger program led by Ranger Kris. It was titled Headwater Habitat Walk. It lasted 1 ½ hours and we enjoyed it. Ranger Kris was very informative about the pine bark beetle, indicating that while virtually all of the Lodgepole Pines would be killed; the fir, spruce and aspen would thrive and take their place.
