May 29, 2010, Green River, Utah

May 28 – We moved to Green River, Utah and are staying at the Shady Acres RV Park.

May 29 - We drove into Arches National Park this morning and hiked the Delicate Arch Trail (3 miles round trip). Delicate Arch is 45 feet high and has a 33 foot span. It frames the La Sal Mountains. The guide books says “this is the most scenic of all the hikes in the park. It climbs slickrock slopes, passes hanging gardens and ends at a dramatic overlook of the park’s most famous rock span, Delicate Arch.”

On the way back we took a short spur trail to a Ute Indian petroglyph, believed to be from the early 1700s.

We also stopped at Balanced Rock, a short, .3 miles semiloop. The rock rises 55 feet above a pedestal that itself rises 73 feet above ground level.
